Here is what you can expect in a voice lesson:
  • A typical voice lesson begins with a few simple stretches to get your body warmed-up. Singing uses many muscles besides just your vocal chords.
  • The first half of the lesson is usually spent working on vocal exercises and warm-ups. The goal of these exercises is to help the student master various aspects of the human voice. Vocal warm-ups will focus on breathing, phonation, range, vocal color, vocal timber, intonation and diction.
  • The second half of the lesson will be devoted to learning repertoire. This music will be performed at the studio recital or another venue.
  • Acting is a very important part of a singer’s performance. When learning new songs, the student will be challenged to express the meaning of the text. Acting exercises will be used to improve the student’s overall performance.
  • Practice is the most important part of any vocal training. After a lesson is over, it is the student’s responsibility to take what they’ve learned and work on it at home.
